AN ACT to amend the executive law, in relation to directing the division
  of  criminal  justice  services  to  publish a brochure describing the
  resources available to the general public for gathering criminal back-
  ground information on an individual

  THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  Section 1. Section 837 of the executive law is amended by adding a new
subdivision 19 to read as follows:
  19.  PUBLISH, IN WRITING AND ON ITS WEBSITE, A BROCHURE DESCRIBING THE
RESOURCES AVAILABLE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC FOR THE PURPOSE  OF  GATHERING
CRIMINAL  BACKGROUND  INFORMATION  ON  AN INDIVIDUAL. THE BROCHURE SHALL
OUTLINE THE AVAILABLE DATABASES AS  WELL  AS  PROVIDE  INSTRUCTIONS  FOR
THEIR USE AND CONTACT INFORMATION FOR ASSISTANCE IN USING THE DATABASES.
SUCH BROCHURE SHALL INCLUDE INFORMATION ON THE DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS
AND COMMUNITY SUPERVISION PAROLEE AND INMATE LOOKUP, THE SUBDIRECTORY OF
SEX  OFFENDERS  MAINTAINED PURSUANT TO SECTION ONE HUNDRED SIXTY-EIGHT-Q
OF THE CORRECTION LAW, THE SPECIAL TELEPHONE NUMBER MAINTAINED  PURSUANT
TO  SECTION  ONE HUNDRED SIXTY-EIGHT-P OF THE CORRECTION LAW, THE OFFICE
OF COURT ADMINISTRATION CRIMINAL HISTORY RECORD SEARCH,  THE  DEPARTMENT
OF  JUSTICE  NATIONAL  SEX  OFFENDER PUBLIC WEBSITE AS WELL AS ANY OTHER
AVAILABLE DATABASES. THE DIVISION SHALL DISTRIBUTE AT NO COST A COPY  OF
THE BROCHURE CREATED BY THIS SECTION TO ALL YOUTH SERVICES ORGANIZATIONS
THAT  HAVE  REGISTERED  WITH  THE  DIVISION PURSUANT TO SECTION TWO-A OF
SECTION ONE HUNDRED SIXTY-EIGHT-P OF THE CORRECTION LAW AS WELL AS  MAKE
THE PUBLICATION AVAILABLE ON THEIR WEBSITE.
  S  2.  This  act shall take effect on the ninetieth day after it shall
have become a law; provided, however,  that  effective  immediately  the
division  of  criminal  justice services may and hereby is authorized to
