BILL NUMBER:S7160 TITLE OF BILL: An act to direct the department of environmental conservation to expedite cleanup efforts at the former Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corporation facilities at Bethpage PURPOSE: Directs the DEC to expedite cleanup efforts at the former Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corporation facility in Bethpage, New York. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section one directs the DEC to expedite the design and construction phases in regard to cleanup efforts at the former Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corporation facilities in Bethpage. Section two requires the DEC to develop construction quality control, construction quality assurance, and contingency reports for areas of the site in the design phase. Further, it requires the development of interim remedial measures for both emergency and non-emergency situations that may arise during the cleanup. Section three of the bill provides that the plans described in section two be followed accurately and timely to remove potentially harmful chemicals from the site and to reduce any threat to the public health

HANNON -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Environmental Conservation AN ACT to direct the department of environmental conservation to expe- dite cleanup efforts at the former Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corpo- ration facilities at Bethpage THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The department of environmental conservation shall expedite the design and construction phases in regard to cleanup efforts at the former Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corporation facilities in Bethpage, Town of Oyster Bay, Nassau County. S 2. For areas of the site in the design phase, the department of environmental conservation will develop construction quality control, construction quality assurance, and contingency reports. Interim remedi- al measures will also be developed for both emergency and non-emergency situations that may arise during the cleanup process. S 3. During the construction phase at the site, the plans described in section two of this act will be followed accurately and in a timely manner to remove potentially harmful chemicals from the site and reduce threats to the public health.
