S T A T E O F N E W Y O R K ________________________________________________________________________ 7055 2013-2014 Regular Sessions I N A S S E M B L Y April 30, 2013 ___________ Introduced by M. of A. JAFFEE -- read once and referred to the Committee on Tourism, Parks, Arts and Sports Development AN ACT to impose a two year moratorium on the conduct of mixed martial arts events in the state and to require the commissioner of the department of health to conduct a comprehensive health study to deter- mine the dangers of mixed martial arts THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Notwithstanding any law, rule or regulation to the contra- ry, public and for-profit mixed martial arts competition events shall not be conducted in the state of New York for a period of two years from the effective date of this act. S 2. The commissioner of the department of health is authorized and directed to conduct a comprehensive health study to determine the dangers to participants of engaging in mixed martial arts competition events. Such study shall be completed within eighteen months of the effective date of this act. S 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
