BILL NUMBER:S2134 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the highway law, in relation to the limitation on certain highway expenses in the town of Brookhaven, Suffolk county PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF THE BILL: To increase the amount that the Town of Brookhaven may spend for the purchase of stone crushers, power rollers, motor trucks, scarifiers, concrete mixers, traction engines or road machines for grading and scraping, equipment, tools and other implements. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: This bill amends subparagraph 1-d of paragraph a of subdivision 3 of § 271 of the Highway Law to increase the amount that the Town of Brookhaven may spend for the purchase of stone crushers, power rollers, motor trucks, scarifiers, concrete mixers, traction engines or road machines for grading and scraping, equipment, tools and other implements. JUSTIFICATION: The Town of Brookhaven has a population of approximately 450,000 people and has grown by approximately 50,000 in the past decade. The Town's Highway Department services over 2,000 miles of road. Due to the miles of roadway and the volume of traffic these roads endure each year the $1 million limit is completely inadequate to meet the needs of the residents. FLANAGAN -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Transportation AN ACT to amend the highway law, in relation to the limitation on certain highway expenses in the town of Brookhaven, Suffolk county THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Subparagraph 1-d of paragraph a of subdivision 3 of section 271 of the highway law, as added by chapter 523 of the laws of 1986, is amended to read as follows: (1-d) [One] TWO million SIX HUNDRED THOUSAND dollars in the town of Brookhaven in Suffolk county for replacement of equipment or replacement for comparable use, AS WELL AS NEW PURCHASES.
