BILL NUMBER:S2847 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the public health law, in relation to requiring the department of health to assign at least one investigator of the bureau of narcotics enforcement to each county within a city having a population of one million or more PURPOSE: To direct the Department of Health to assign at least 1 narcotics investigator to each county in the City of New York. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section one amends section 3385 of the public health law by adding a new subdivision 3 requiring at least 1 narcotics investigator to each county in New York City. JUSTIFICATION: New York City, especially the borough of Staten Island is experiencing a growth in prescription drug abuse among its population, especially teenagers and young adults. Abusers of prescription narcotics usually obtain these drugs by using forged prescriptions or deceiving their

LANZA -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Health AN ACT to amend the public health law, in relation to requiring the department of health to assign at least one investigator of the bureau of narcotics enforcement to each county within a city having a popu- lation of one million or more THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 3385 of the public health law is amended by adding a new subdivision 3 to read as follows: 3. THE DEPARTMENT SHALL ASSIGN AND EMPLOY NOT LESS THAN ONE INVESTI- GATOR OF THE BUREAU OF NARCOTICS ENFORCEMENT TO ENFORCE THE PROVISIONS OF THIS ARTICLE IN EACH COUNTY WITHIN A CITY HAVING A POPULATION OF ONE MILLION OR MORE.
