 AN  ACT  to  amend the general municipal law, in relation to authorizing
   religious and charitable organizations to accept  personal  checks  as
   payment for raffle tickets
 
   THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section 1. Subdivisions 3-b and 20  of  section  186  of  the  general
 municipal  law,  subdivision  3-b as added by chapter 550 of the laws of
 1994 and subdivision 20 as added by chapter 574 of the laws of 1978, are
 amended to read as follows:
   3-b. "Raffle" shall mean and include those games of chance in which  a
 participant pays money OR BY PERSONAL CHECK, PROVIDED THE RAFFLE IS HELD
 BY  AN AUTHORIZED ORGANIZATION THAT IS A BONA FIDE RELIGIOUS OR CHARITA-
 BLE ORGANIZATION, in return for a ticket or other receipt and in which a
 prize is awarded on the basis of a winning number or numbers,  color  or
 colors, or symbol or symbols designated on the ticket or receipt, deter-
 mined  by  chance  as  a result of a drawing from among those tickets or
 receipts previously sold.
   20. "Games of chance currency" shall mean legal tender or  a  form  of
 scrip  or  chip authorized by the board, any of which may be used at the
 discretion of the games of chance licensee; PROVIDED, HOWEVER, "GAMES OF
 CHANCE CURRENCY" SHALL ALSO  INCLUDE  PERSONAL  CHECKS  AS  PAYMENT  FOR
 RAFFLES  WHEN  THE  GAMES OF CHANCE LICENSEE IS A BONA FIDE RELIGIOUS OR
 CHARITABLE ORGANIZATION.
   § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
