 AN  ACT  to  amend  the  education law, in relation to requiring certain
   public schools to provide Halal food during lunch
 
   THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section  1. The education law is amended by adding a new section 915-a
 to read as follows:
   § 915-A. HALAL FOOD RESTRICTIONS.  1. IN ANY CITY OR  COUNTY  IN  THIS
 STATE, INCLUDING A CITY HAVING A POPULATION OF ONE MILLION OR MORE, EACH
 PUBLIC  SCHOOL  SHALL  PROVIDE  HALAL FOOD TO ANY STUDENT WHO HAS SUCH A
 DIETARY RESTRICTION OR REQUIREMENT AT NO COST TO SUCH STUDENT.
   2. THIS SECTION SHALL ONLY APPLY TO A CITY SCHOOL  DISTRICT  HAVING  A
 MUSLIM  POPULATION EQUAL TO OR GREATER THAN FIFTEEN PERCENT THEREOF. THE
 MUSLIM POPULATION, FOR PURPOSES OF THIS  SECTION,  SHALL  INCLUDE  THOSE
 PERSONS,  ADULTS  AND  CHILDREN,  WHO  ARE  FULLY OR PARTIALLY OF MUSLIM
 DESCENT AND SHALL INCLUDE ALL THOSE PERSONS AND ETHNIC GROUPS IDENTIFIED
 AS MUSLIM BY THE UNITED STATES CENSUS BUREAU FOR PURPOSES  OF  THE  YEAR
 TWO THOUSAND TEN FEDERAL DECENNIAL CENSUS.
   § 2. This act shall take effect on the one hundred twentieth day after
 it  shall have become a law. Effective immediately, the addition, amend-
 ment and/or repeal of any rules or regulations necessary for the  imple-
 mentation of this act on its effective date are authorized to be made on
 or before such date.
