.SO DOC S R2784 RESO TEXT 2009 LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring C. John Morrison and Juanita Morrison upon the occasion of their retirement as Salvation Army officers after 34 years of service WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and commend those illustrious individuals of distinguished purpose whose lives have been committed to the pursuit of excellence; and WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long- standing traditions, it is the intent of this Legislative Body to honor Major C. John Morrison and Major Juanita Morrison upon the occasion of their retirement as Salvation Army officers after 34 years, the last eight of which they served in Syracuse, New York; and WHEREAS, C. John Morrison and Juanita Morrison were commissioned in 1975, as officers in The Salvation Army, after serving as soldiers in the Central Territory of the United States; and WHEREAS, C. John Morrison and Juanita Morrison served in numerous positions in The Salvation Army's Central Territory, including Corps Officers in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Porter County, Indiana, Battle Creek, Michigan, and North Platte, Nebraska; at Divisional Headquarters and at Territorial Headquarters; and in Moline, Illinois; and WHEREAS, C. John Morrison and Juanita Morrison were appointed Area Coordinators of Syracuse Area Services on July 4, 2001, and have served in these roles to this day; and WHEREAS, Major C. John Morrison serves as the liaison to The Salvation Army's Empire State Division, which includes all of the state north of Westchester County; Major Juanita Morrison has been working with her husband and helping him to oversee the Syracuse operation and minister to parishioners; and WHEREAS, Major C. John Morrison and Major Juanita Morrison have served as leaders of the Onondaga Tabernacle Corps., where they began Disciple- ship Caring Groups, gathering small groups of parishioners once a month to informally talk about God and their lives; the Discipleship Caring Groups have helped many individuals in the community; and WHEREAS, Major C. John Morrison is particularly proud of the local Salvation Army's involvement in Family Place, a collaborative project between The Salvation Army, Onondaga County Department of Social Services, Huntington Family Center and Catholic Charities; the program offers safe opportunities for parents to visit their children who are in foster care; and WHEREAS, Juanita Morrison is proud of the week-long senior citizens summer camp program she helped create about two years ago; the Lodge at Long Point Camp on Seneca Lake offers hotel-like accommodations to local seniors and allows them to enjoy many outdoor activities; and WHEREAS, C. John and Juanita Morrison have always worked as a team in their mission of serving God through the array of community and social services programs offered at the Syracuse Salvation Army and their church, the Onondaga Tabernacle Corps. in Clay, New York; they have touched many lives during their time with The Salvation Army of the Syracuse Area, and their vision and dedication will be greatly missed; and WHEREAS, C. John and Juanita Morrison are moving back to Cheboygan, Michigan, where they will work part-time for The Salvation Army for their last few months before retiring; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to honor C. John and Juanita Morrison upon the occasion of their retirement as Salvation Army officers, and to wish them a blessed life in retire- ment; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran- smitted to C. John and Juanita Morrison.
