BILL NUMBER:S3912 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the education law, in relation to school safety plans PURPOSE: To have school districts formulate policies and procedures for responding to a student's implied or direct intention to commit suicide and to have policies and procedures for contacting parents, guardians or persons in parental relation to a student if the student makes an implied or direct intention to commit suicide SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1: Section 1 adds a new paragraph b-1 to subdivision 2 of section 2801-a of the education law by requiring school districts to include policies and procedures for responding to a student's implied or direct intention to commit suicide. Section 2: Section 2 adds a new paragraph f to subdivision 2 of section 2801-a of the education law by requiring school districts to include policies and procedures for contacting parents, guardians or persons in parental relation to a student of the district that indicates an implied or direct intention to commit suicide.

Subdivision 2 of section 2801-a of the education law is amended by adding a new paragraph b-1 to read as follows: B-1. POLICIES AND PROCEDURES FOR RESPONDING TO A STUDENT'S IMPLIED OR DIRECT INTENTION TO COMMIT SUICIDE; S 2. Paragraphs f, g, h, i, j and k of subdivision 2 of section 2801-a of the education law are relettered paragraphs g, h, i, j, k and l and a new paragraph f is added to read as follows: F. POLICIES AND PROCEDURES FOR CONTACTING PARENTS, GUARDIANS OR PERSONS IN PARENTAL RELATION TO A STUDENT OF THE DISTRICT THAT INDICATES AN IMPLIED OR DIRECT INTENTION TO COMMIT SUICIDE; S 3. BILL NUMBER:S3912A TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the education law, in relation to school safety plans PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: This legislation will ensure that school districts formulate policies and procedures for responding to a student where it is reasonable to believe is at risk of harming himself or herself. SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS: Section 1 of the bill adds a new paragraph b-1 to education law section 2801-a.2 to require school districts to include policies and procedures for responding to a student where it is reasonable to believe that the student is at risk of harming himself or herself as manifested by a threat of suicide or other conduct demonstrating that the student is a danger to himself or herself. Section 2 reletters paragraphs and adds a new paragraph f to education law section 2801-a.2 to require school districts to include policies and procedures for contacting parents, guardians or persons in parental relation to a student of the district where it is reasonable to believe that the student is at risk of harming himself or herself as manifested by a threat of suicide or other conduct demonstrating
